PROCESSING by Frank Abbott Recipient of the Nottingham Castle Open 2012 ‘Solo Show’ Prize

Located in the South Hall stairwell of Nottingham Castle, which runs between the fine art collection upstairs and the objects of everyday life downstairs, packaging, logos, letters, lights and sounds - the procession of visitors through this grand arena - all go towards PROCESSING making up its mind. PROCESSING attempts to grasp what it is to interact with a picture.

Between 6.45pm and 7pm Frank Abbott will conduct a short live performance on the stairwell communicating with the PROCESSING installation by way of a keyboard, illustrating the process by which it was programmed.

LAST SUPPER by Simon Raven The latest recipient in the series of Café Table Commissions

In addition to his artworks displayed in our unique café table ‘vitrines’, Raven will be performing Castle Shotz: Camouflaged against walls of paintings, a figure peers through a hole in an elaborately framed, but very amateur painting of 'Shottingham Castle'. He interacts with audience members by carefully following them around the room, comically and literally embodying the haunting quality of a portrait.
